Tom Davis, Jr. has been a Thompson submachine gun enthusiast since his childhood, watching actors Robert Stack on The Untouchables and Vic Morrow on Combat. Tom began researching and writing about Thompson guns in 2007. It is a hobby, albeit a very serious hobby. Tom only writes stories about the history of the Thompson gun that are educational and informative. His first story was published in Small Arms Review magazine in 2008; many others have followed. He is one of the Other authors in The Ultimate Thompson Book, published by Collector Grade Publications, with two credited chapters. Tom has published three books about the Thompson submachine gun, Great Britain The Tommy Gun Story, An Amateur’s Guide for the Colt’s Thompson Submachine Gun and A Thompson Compendium. The continued support from the many great members of The American Thompson Association and the Thompson Collector’s Association makes research into the history of this iconic firearm so enjoyable that a fourth book is currently in the works. The results of Tom's research are a culmination of over 15 years of research into these many different Thompson variations. Tom’s professional life involved working for several local law enforcement organizations, practicing law for a few years, and teaching Business Law at his college alma mater. Seeking a return to law enforcement, Tom became an Inspector in 1986 at the U.S. Treasury Department, Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Office of Regional Inspector, an organization that specialized in internal crimes and the protection of the tax administration system in the United States. In 1999, Tom’s organization was taken out of the IRS and became the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration. Tom retired in 2010 as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge in Cincinnati, Ohio. While Tennessee is considered home, Tom has spent many years in Texas and now lives in Northern Kentucky. Tom is an avid Skeet competitor, something that often takes him away from the Thompson community. 8 1/2 X 11, softcover, photos, Illus, 193pp.
